Life Cycle perennial
General Description Erect perennial with large, ovate, and opposite leaves.
Seedlings Cotyledons are round, oval, and thick. Young leaves are opposite and smooth. Hypocotyl is usually purple. Cotyledons are rare since plants usually emerge from rhizomes.
True Leaves and Stem Leaves are opposite and ovate with a pointed tip. Plants are more branched in upper third and may exude a milky juice when injured. Leaves are smaller than that of common milkweed.
Roots White, fleshy roots and rhizomes.
Flower and Fruit Greenish-white tubular flowers are found in clusters at the end of the stems.
